COTTAGE RENOVATION 2011

By the end of 2011, the cottage was now completely airtighg. The radiant heaters were almost all installed.

HRV installed, temporary kitchen installed and the hardwood flooring is all the way through the old section of the cottage,

save for the kitchen, and down the hallway to Doo-Doo's room.

We don't really need a kitchen sink, or a counter, or cabinets or drawers,

everyone keeps tellling me its a cottage

Having helpers with the paint is always great, especially when the work will be covered up by cabinetry,

truth be told Thomas was a great helper.

Thomas put in quite a number of the screws by himself

Sarah, however, still needed a little help

Two layers of subloor in the family room, another layer of subloor throughout the original cottage, and six inches between each screw.

Why did we put down all that subfloor you might ask?

Well........118 boxes of hardwood needed somewhere to go

Laying hardwood flooring is not technically difficult,

but it takes time, patience and attention to detail.

With the Crew putting in such a great effort, the project moved well if not as quickly as we might have expected.

Having the right tools certainly makes doing this job more enjoyable.

It didn't hurt that Derek was able lay approximately 300sq/ft of hardwood at Granpa and Nana's house before tackling this monster of a job.

(plus it helps rationalize the purchase of a quality nailer)
