Hobbes
After one month of upheaval, things are starting to get back to normal. Hobbes is once again going on his daily walks and is rather protective the stroller, or at least what is in it. In fact, Hobbes has become very protective at his new buddy, Thomas. He likes to sit next to him when he is being fed and enjoys sniffing his head, all the while tail wagging. Of course, due to this protective behaviour, Pam & Derek are having to keep him on a tight leash, literally, when visitors are around. While Pam & Derek aren't overly thrilled with this change in Hobbes' behaviour, they are proud of him "passing" puppy school. He aced his beginner class test which involved sitting & staying on command for 8 seconds, lying down and staying on command for 8 seconds, lying down and not touching a treat one foot in front of his nose for 8 seconds, doing 4 sets of "puppy push-ups" (sit, down, sit, down) and walking 2 laps around the training ring with a loose leash (no pulling). Pam was especially proud of Hobbes for passing since they had missed the 2 classes leading up to "graduation".
Hobbes had already tried swimming at the Griffiths' pool, but since it was above ground he wasn't too keen on the idea. Last weekend (June 24) he went to the Hyde cottage to try swimming in a lake. After a bit of nervousness, he finally went in and while he preferred staying near the shore, he did venture out far enough by himself so that he was swimming!
Pam's friend Jen & daughter, Sophie, came for a visit. At first, Hobbes wasn't too sure of this person at his own level, but sure enough after bonding over Cheerios, the 2 were able to get along (most of the time!)
Hobbes started puppy school a few weeks ago, and while there is definite improvement, he still needs a lot of work before the baby arrives. He can now "sit" on command, and much of the time will "stay" (for around 3 seconds), he's beginning to master "down" and walking on a leash without pulling. He still has a long way to go towards mastering "leave it" and "drop it", but Derek and Pam are confident he'll get it (sooner or later). Now he just needs to realize that little children are not dogs and that he shouldn't jump up at them!
Born on December 19, 2005, Hobbes is an adorable male cockapoo.
Hobbes is a dog that loves to cuddle (with Pam) and play (with Derek).
He also loves going on nightly walks followed by a game of "soccer" in the backyard.
Of course, the "hope" is he's too pooped to play once he's back inside!
Hobbes has recently discovered drinking and cooling off in the sprinkler.
After getting wet, he prefers to dry off by himself.
